I Finished The Fire Starter Sessions!

I began reading this book by Danielle LaPorte while on vacation several months ago and just finished it on my way back from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conference in Atlanta. It could not have come to me at a better time. In Atlanta I was fortunate enough to hear from some amazing speakers including (but not limited to) Condoleezza Rice, Malcolm Gladwell, Jim Collins, Jerry Seinfeld, and Tom Brokaw.

In my worldview life does not have coincidences so as I read FireSS I did not fall off my chair when Danielle mentioned Michael Bungay Stanier’s Do More Great Work, another book I am currently reading, or when she suggested using Collins’ tool for creating a personal hedgehog when I had heard him give the same advice at SHRM two days prior.

What I LOVE about this book is that Danielle calls to your(my) soul in a charming and delightfully earthy way. She does not apologize. She does not hide. She begs you(me) to be you(me). She has spent countless hours reading, reflecting, and working with coaches/guides to birth this work. It is very apparent for readers that she comes to this piece with deep, rich experience. We benefit from her gritty honesty, vulnerability, and her NEED to light your(my) fire.

She is clearly well-read and does a superb job of identifying her source materials and those who lit her fire. Her genuineness is what kept me going throughout the book and is also what makes her distinct amongst self-help/ coaching experts who prefer to stand above those who seek their guidance. Danielle does not waste time touting herself as an expert; what she is = a highly skilled and passionate partner for your(my) journey. For that partnership I am very grateful.

So, in summary… This is a fantastic read and if you are attentive YOUR FIRE WILL BE LIT AND KINDLED.

Blessings,
Rachel
